Your Demise - Ignorance Never Dies

Review by Rob S

We, the British people are actually very lucky. Sure we’ve got crappy weather, chavs, a government more occupied with redecorating their bathrooms than making the country a better place… Well perhaps I should leave it there. But while the country may well be going down the toilet in many aspects, our music scenes are only becoming more fertile, and British hardcore in particular has perhaps never been so good. In this climate it takes something special to stand out from the crowd, but anything perceived as a gimmick will be shot down without mercy. Treading this line between authenticity and immediacy come Your Demise from St Albans. Right from the one two sucker punch of ‘Ignorance never dies’ and rampaging first single ‘Burnt Tongues,’ YD’s debut album takes no prisoners eschewing any worries about originality with bursts of hardcore so violent you’ll be counting your teeth after a listen.

To pick any particular highlights would be pointless really; as each primal slab of Comeback Kid meets Hatebreed rage wields a terrifying impact of its own, comparable to being hit by a ten ton truck, how would you go about choosing? Juxtaposed within this landscape of sonic savagery are a number of thumping drum n’ bass tracks, which surprisingly (for someone not well acquainted with Dn’b ) fit perfectly, and are pretty damn good themselves. It might seem like a gimmick from a distance, but it does actually add to the overall experience. Elsewhere furious, misanthropic vocals, thrashy guitars and double kick drums conspire to evoke images of insane circle pits and crowd surfers; yes, this material begs to be played live.

In the end, the choice is a simple one. If you like hardcore, check Your Demise out. Once you’ve picked the shattered pieces of your stereo out of your hair and cleaned up the furniture destroyed as you tried to create a one man moshpit in your living room, you will be itching for more.
